Spam mailers WILL be reported to their respective postmasters and AOL TOSSPAM! Rae, The carrier signal is that 'shrieking noise' the modems make. An AOL Mystery- I'm stumped
As ATM networks don't use MAC addresses I don't think the ISP could use a MAC address to check that the correct modem/router was in use. That applies to AOL (of which the OP was asking) and Sky (which I mentioned), but I think not to Virgin/NTL/Telewest which I believe do use ethernet protocols over their cables

Modem for PPC?
As a practical example, NTL modems will hand an IP address to the first device that requests it, after which the modem will only send and receive data to that MAC address. You have to reboot the modem to use a different MAC address. NTL set-top boxes go a step further, and any MAC addresses you wish to use must be

The AOL software almost certainly can't do anything with it. You could, of course, connect to AOL via TCP/IP after connecting to the net, if you want. AOL using BT Voyager (USB) modem
Windows vaguely calls the option something about DSL modem and PPPoE. Of course.. So to connect using a DSL or cable modem.. you choose that option.
